Ferrug, Ferugggin, What is this duck called??!!??

Hello all, for the last 2 weeks we have had a Ferruginous
(Fe-rudge-i-nus) Duck present at Oulton Marshes, just outside of Oulton Broad, Lowestoft.

Affectionaltely known as the "Fudge Duck" this little beauty usually from central Europe has been diving and making friends with the local Coot now for some time.

Smaller than a Mallard, but bigger than a Teal this pale eyed Drake is a real stunner.

In the picture here we can see that his rust coloured flanks fade to pale on the underside of his belly. Big white wingbars make it easy to spot in flight, and the almost pure white underside to both wings is also another flight id tip.

And remember if you cant say Ferruginous, then just call it a fudge!!

Until next time....
Danny
